Lauren Mayell’s journey in music began long before any stage lights or studio walls. Raised in a family where music wasn’t just a passion but a way of life, she spent her childhood singing alongside her grandfather, the beloved "Oak Lake Country Troubadour" Charlie Mayell, and her grandmother—her very own Johnny and June. From campgrounds to country jamborees, retirement homes to community halls, Lauren grew up harmonizing with her grandparents, learning early on that music has the power to connect, comfort, and heal.
Rooted in music since childhood, it’s no exaggeration to say that Lauren has been making music her entire life. She began composing on piano at a young age and quickly found her voice through performance and songwriting. Her first breakthrough came at just 14 when she won Thunder Bay Idol with a moving rendition of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”—a performance that sparked her unwavering dedication to her craft.
Driven by both talent and tenacity, Mayell later earned her degree in music from the University of Calgary, deepening her technical skill and artistic insight. In addition to her career as a recording artist, she has dedicated herself to coaching and developing emerging talent, helping other artists find their voice and tell their stories.
For Lauren, music is more than melody—it's purpose. Having overcome personal trials and profound loss, she channels her experiences into songs that speak to resilience, healing, and hope. Beyond the spotlight, Mayell’s resilience shines through personal challenges, including the loss of her father, Larry Mayell (2019 ACMA Industry Person of the Year), a respected figure in the industry. Inspired by his enduring belief in her talent and their shared dreams, she returns to her musical journey with renewed determination, driven by his final encouragement to never give up.
Lauren Mayell’s story is not just one of talent and achievement but also of profound strength and hope, leaving an indelible mark on every stage she graces and inspiring others to persevere in the face of adversity. Whether on stage, in the studio, or mentoring the next generation, Lauren brings heart, authenticity, and a deep desire to make the world a better place—one song at a time.
