With an undeniable passion and mesmerizing presence, Lauren Mayell effortlessly captivates all who cross her path. Fueled by her electrifying voice, her high-energy performances offer audiences a genuine glimpse of her immense talent. In the realm of country music, where charisma is a prerequisite and emotions reign supreme, this Calgary-based singer-songwriter stands out as a true showstopper. Sporting a legacy-worthy “Pure Country” belt buckle inherited from her influential musician grandfather, Mayell has amassed an impressive array of accomplishments.
Raised as a free-spirited teenager in Thunder Bay, she was originally born in Calgary but returned there to pursue her dreams. Mayell’s journey spans from her days as a competitive downhill ski racer and coach to becoming a sought-after voice coach. With eight singles already gracing the airwaves, she has shared stages with luminaries like Gary Levox, Kane Brown, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan , Lindsay Ell, Brett Kissel, Dean Brody, Meghan Patrick, Aaron Goodvin, and many more. Lighting up marquee Canadian venues and festivals including Country Thunder Arizona, Alberta and Saskatechewan, Coca- Cola Stage, and Nashville North to name a few.
The singer/songwriter — perhaps best known for the lyric-driven anthem “Rules Need Rebels,” her sixth single to country radio — collected the Alberta Country Music Award for Female Artist of the Year (2018). That precedes Mayell’s full-length debut, currently underway. Recorded at MCC Recording Studios in Calgary , the Warehouse in Vancouver and at Manicdown Productions, “The Journey” gathers those before-mentioned hits — including the sassy honky-tonk corker “Say It,” the classic tear-jerker “If It Ain’t Fixed” plus the plaintive and longing “Harder” — and adds a fistful of dazzling new songs, several penned in Nashville and all helmed by in-demand producers Dan Swinimer(Madeline Merlo and JoJo Mason) and Jeff Johnson (Dallas Smith, George Canyon, Wes Mack).
The Producers aren’t the only ones with faith in Mayell, who has co-written with Nashville heavy-hitters Marty Dodson and Bruce Wallace as well as with Meghan Patrick. There’s also the Alberta Country Music Award win for Female Artist of the Year (2018) which caps a heap of previous ACMA nominations as well as a 2017 Country 105 Rising Star victory, and a 2016 Country Thunder Music Festival Cowboys Star. Rooted in music since childhood, It’s no exaggeration to say Mayell, who composes mainly on piano, has been making music her entire life. Mayell’s early triumph in “Thunder Bay Idol” at 14, with her version of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” marked her first breakthrough moment, shaping her unwavering dedication to her craft.
Beyond the spotlight, Mayell’s resilience shines through personal challenges, including the loss of her father Larry Mayell (2019 ACMA Industry Person of the Year), a respected figure in the industry. Inspired by his enduring belief in her talent and their shared dreams, she returns to her musical journey with renewed determination, driven by his final encouragement to never give up.
Lauren Mayell’s story is not just one of talent and achievement but also of profound strength and hope, leaving an indelible mark on every stage she graces and inspiring others to persevere in the face of adversity. New music coming end of August!
